A calmer desk, a better working day

Small changes to lighting, cable placement, and screen height can make a home workspace easier to use. Start with the way you work, then choose the tools.

Start with your everyday routine

List the devices you use together: a laptop, an external display, a keyboard, and perhaps a headset. Keep the items you reach for most within comfortable reach. Move occasional-use accessories into a drawer rather than buying more desk organizers.

Make the light work for you

Position your display so a window is beside it rather than directly behind it. A movable task lamp helps illuminate paper without shining onto the screen. Check for glare at the time of day you actually work; morning and evening light can behave differently.

Choose accessories around compatibility

Before choosing a dock, confirm the laptop port supports the display output you need. Check the dock documentation for supported monitors, operating systems, and power delivery. A USB-C connector alone does not establish all of these capabilities.

A useful starting checklist

Measure your usable desk area, record your laptop model, and count required ports. Improve one thing at a time. A clearer surface and better cable placement may be more useful than replacing every accessory.
